What Is Foil Highlights?
Also called: Foils, Foiled highlights
Foil highlights isolate woven sections of hair in foil so lightener can process with maximum lift and precision — the brightest, most controlled highlighting method.
Foil highlighting weaves out fine sections of hair, paints them with lightener, and seals each one in a foil packet. The foil traps heat and keeps the product moist, letting it process to a stronger lift than open-air techniques — which is why foils remain the method of choice for high-contrast, root-to-tip brightness and true blonde transformations.
A partial highlight foils the top and face-framing sections; a full highlight works through the whole head. Compared with balayage, foils deliver more lift and precision but show regrowth sooner, so they suit wearers who keep a regular color schedule and want maximum brightness.
