What Is Blonding?

Blonding is the umbrella term for any service that lightens hair toward blonde — highlights, balayage, babylights, or all-over lightening — plus the toning that finishes it.

Blonding is salon shorthand for the whole family of lightening services: foil highlights, balayage, babylights, ombre, and full-head lightening all fall under it. If lightener touches your hair with blonde as the destination, it is a blonding service.

The term exists because modern blonde work rarely fits one technique. A single appointment might combine balayage through the lengths, babylights at the hairline, and a root smudge, finished with a toner — booking it as a partial or full blonding session gives the colorist room to build the look rather than squeeze it into one technique's box. Partial blonding works the top and face-frame; full blonding works the entire head.
