What Is Remy Hair?
Also called: Remy human hair, Cuticle-aligned hair
Remy hair is human hair collected with all cuticles kept intact and facing the same direction — the quality standard that keeps extensions smooth and tangle-free.
Remy refers to how human hair is collected and processed, not where it comes from. In Remy hair, the cuticle — the shingle-like outer layer of each strand — is left intact and every strand is kept aligned root-to-tip in the same direction, exactly as it grew. That alignment is what keeps the hair smooth, reflective, and resistant to matting.
Non-Remy hair is gathered from mixed sources with cuticles facing every direction, then usually stripped in acid and coated in silicone to fake smoothness. The coating washes out within weeks, and the hair mats and tangles. It is the single biggest reason cheap extensions fail.
When comparing extension hair, "100% Remy human hair" is the baseline worth insisting on; virgin Remy (never chemically processed) is the top tier.
