What Is Root Touch-Up?

A root touch-up colors only the regrowth at your roots to match your existing color — the quick, economical maintenance service between full color appointments.

A root touch-up (or retouch) applies color only to the new growth at the scalp — typically the first inch or so — and blends it into your existing color. Because product and time are focused on the regrowth rather than the whole head, it is the fastest and most economical way to keep permanent color looking freshly done.

Most all-over color wearers alternate: full color a few times a year, root touch-ups every 4–6 weeks in between. Covering gray regrowth is the most common reason, but any solid color benefits from the same rhythm. When the lengths have also faded, a toner or gloss can be added the same visit to refresh everything at once.
