What Is Color Correction?

Color correction is the specialist process of fixing unwanted hair color — banding, brass, botched box dye, or uneven lightening — often over multiple sessions.

Color correction is the umbrella term for fixing color that went wrong: orange or yellow brass, stripes and bands from overlapping applications, muddy box-dye buildup, spotty lightening, or color that simply came out nothing like the photo. It is a diagnostic specialty — the colorist has to work out what is already in the hair (including old dye layers you may have forgotten) before deciding what can safely be done to it.

Corrections are typically priced by the hour rather than as a flat service, because the work ranges from a single toning session to multiple staged appointments with bond-repair treatments between them. A reputable colorist will tell you honestly when the safe path takes two or three visits — hair integrity always outranks speed.

The consultation matters more here than in any other color service: bring your color history, be honest about box dye, and expect a strand test.
